Willowbend Siberians
Gone But Not Forgotten
The first husky cross in our life was Kayla. I adopted her from the SPCA in Toronto in my third year of University. I will have to say that I was spoiled by her right from her young eight weeks. She travelled everywhere with me pretty much except for class. She was a veteran subway and TTC rider as well as my front seat driver. She loved water and was an excellent wind surfer. She could dive for rocks and golf balls and only ate french fries with ketchup. She was an awesome dog, no leash required and was not your typical husky. We were blessed with her for 14.5 yrs. 1987 - 2001
Tess arrived when Kayla was about 3 yrs old. Our first child had arrived and we babysat a friends dog for the weekend. Kayla loved having a canine buddy to play with so in came Tess. Her mother was a shepherd and her father a large purebred siberian husky. Tess looked like a shepherd but had the down coat of a husky. She was instantly bonded to the baby and could be found where ever Jessica was. We should have known at the time but Tess had the personality of a husky. If you opened the door, she was gone. If it wasn't nailed down or hiding, she chewed it. The harder the plastic the better. Jessica was a constant source of toys and when she was done there the counter was never off limits to her. It didn't matter how high or how hard we tried to keep things from her she always found a way. It wasn't until she was about 3 that she settled down. We called her the devil dog but loved her anyway. We were blessed with her for 13+ years. 1990 - 2003
Denver was our border collie/lab rescue. He was born in the dead of winter, outside in the snow at -15C. When they realized that she had had puppies they got them in the house. He was one of three to survive. We went to see the puppies and came home with Denver. What a smart dog he was. He got along with everyone. Around 7yrs old Denver began having seizures. They were incredibly hard to stop and in the end at the young age of 9, he succumbed to his journey with epilepsy. 1996 -2004
Norman came to us from Northwapiti kennels in Athabasca. Karen and Mark were looking to place him in a working home and we were in need of a leader to help with our young dogs. It was a great fit and he instantly became a member of the family and keeper of the couch. Norman was an absolute hoot with tons of personality. He was always happy and smiling no matter what was transpiring. Norman lived with us for 5 yrs and made a huge contribution to our kennel before he succumbed to cancer at 13 yrs of age. 1995 - 2007
Max is the latest to cross the bridge. On a Friday night he began to seizure and on Sunday he was gone. Max was a 4 yr old German shepherd who came to live with us at around 18 months. We had a mutual friend in Jude Fine who felt that Max was a fit in our house. Max was being sold on a street corner in Calgary to provide food for his guardians. Karma says that Max meets Jude and he finds us. He was a happy, take what comes dog. He got along with everyone and any dog. He was cool. His life was too short but we were blessed by knowing him. 2004 - Mar 2008
